Depart from Singapore to begin your journey to Turkey.

Day 2 TUE, 17 OCT 2023

Istanbul – Pergamon

Istanbul – Pergamon

Welcome to Turkey! After a hearty breakfast, drive along the Gallipoli Peninsula to the ancient city of Troy with its 4,000 years history and made famous in Homer’s epic poem, the Iliad where the legendary Trojan War took place. Take a photo with the Hollywood Trojan Horse that was used for the movie “TROY”. Overnight in Canakkale.

Pergamum (Bergama)

Pergamon – Thyatira – Smyrna – Izmir

Stop at Pergamon, the “compromising” church in the Book of Revelation. See the ruins of the Red Hall Basilica of Pergamon and take the cable car to the acropolis of Pergamon for its views of the valley below. Continue to Thyatira, the “adulterous” church that followed a seductive prophetess. Proceed to Smyrna, the “suffering” church in the modern city of Izmir and feel the remnants of ancient life throughout. Overnight in Izmir.

Sardis

Izmir – Sardis – Selcuk – Kusadasi

Start the day at Sardis, the “dead” church that fell asleep as mentioned in the Book of Revelation. Proceed to Ephesus, the “loveless” church in the New Testament. See the remnants of the Artemis Temple, one of the ancient wonders of the world. Visit the Basilica of St John and the House of Virgin Mary where Mary was believed to have spent her last years. Overnight in Kusadasi.

Cave of the Apocalypse, Patmos Island

Patmos – Kusadasi

Take a ferry ride to Patmos Island where John received his visions and recorded them in the Book of Revelation. Visit the Monastery of St John the Theologian that sits high on the hill above the main town and the Grotto of the Apolcalypse where John is said to have received his revelation. Overnight in Kusadasi.

Kusadasi – Philadelphia – Laodicea – Pamukkale

Kusadasi – Philadelphia – Laodicea – Pamukkale

Travel to Philadelphia, the “faithful” church and the ancient city of Laodicea, the church with a “lukewarm” faith. Visit the ancient city of Hierapolis, famed for its white travertine terraces. Drive to Pamukkale (Cotton Castle), known for its hot thermal springs. Overnight in Pamukkale.

Pamukkale – Pisidian Antioch – Cappadocia

Proceed to Lystra where Paul was stoned and presumed dead but revived and continued preaching. Continue to Derbe where Paul and Barnabas preached the gospel. Visit Pisidian Antioch where Paul and Barnabas reached out to the Jewish community here. Overnight in Cappadocia.

Go for a sunrise hot-air balloon ride (optional) before the day’s program starts. Discover Cappadocia, the crowning historical jewel of Turkey. Spend some time appreciating the art of Turkish carpet weaving. Explore the cave churches with colourful frescos at the Goreme Open Air Museum. See the tiny pigeon houses carved into the soft stone in the Pigeon Valley and the unique rock-cut castle in Uchisar Village. Admire the beautiful Fairy Chimneys valley atop the Esentepe Hill. Stop at Avanos Village known for its red clay riverbanks and pottery. Discover the history behind the settlements of Kaymakli Underground City. Overnight in Cappadocia.

Cappadocia – Bolu

Stop at the beautifully restored Tepesi Delik Han Caravanserai, once an inn for travelling merchants and their caravans. Drive to the former capital city of Ankara and walk along the narrow cobblestone alleyways rimmed by Ottoman-era houses in the citadel neighbourhood of Ankara. Stop at the Salt Lake, one of the saltiest lakes in the world and one of the shallowest lakes in Turkey. Overnight in Bolu.

Bolu – Istanbul

Bolu – Istanbul

Proceed to the Istanbul Old City. Walk around Hippodrome of Constantinople where horse and chariot races used to take place. View the famous Blue Mosque known for its blue ties adorning the walls of its interior. Marvel the architecture of Hagia Sophia Museum. Step into Topkapi Palace Museum famous for its exquisite collections of Ottoman treasures. Visit the Grand Bazaar for its spices and foods. Overnight in Istanbul.

Day 11 THU, 26 OCT 2023

The Bosphorus

Istanbul – Istanbul Airprot

Cruise along the Bosporus Strait lined with beautiful houses and Ottoman-era palaces. Stroll along the two different districts of Fener and Balat, surrounded by beautiful houses, quaint buildings, and steep hills. Spend some time shopping at the colourful pedestrianised Istiklal Street and Taksim Square, full of all kinds of shops, cafes, and street shows. Stop at Spice Bazaar for its spices and foods before proceeding to Istanbul Airport for flight back to your home.

Day 12 FRI, 27 OCT 2023

Singapore

Arrive home with many wonderful memories of the trip and a deeper appreciation of the Bible.
